How we verify every bond

Most surety sites publish one generic “contractor bond” number and let it go stale. We do the opposite. Every bond amount, citation, and term on this site is traced to a primary source — a state statute, a county or city ordinance, or the obligee’s own bond form — and we record the date we checked it. If we cannot confirm an amount from a primary source, we do not print one.

• Statute and rule. State-level bonds cite the code section that creates them, read from the legislature or administrative-rule text — not a summary.
• Ordinance and obligee form. City and county bonds are read from the municipal code or the obligee’s own permit and bond form, so the amount on the page is the amount on the form.
• Last-checked dates. Each verified page carries the date we last confirmed it against its source, because requirements change and a date you can see is more honest than one you cannot.
• Portal-tier honesty. When an obligee sets the amount per applicant and confirms it only inside its issuance portal, we say so plainly and send you to get the exact figure at issuance — rather than guess a number we cannot stand behind.

That is the difference between a directory and a source. It is also why our pages note when a bond is set by the obligee rather than fixed by statute: the goal is the requirement you can actually rely on.
