Anyone doing encroachment or excavation work in a Town of Jackson street. The bond runs to the Town, is conditioned on compliance with the encroachment chapter, and is further conditioned to fill up, restore and place in good and safe condition, to the satisfaction of the Public Works Director, all openings and excavations made in streets. It also stands behind damage to utilities: if pipes, conduits, poles or wires are damaged, the owning agency repairs them and the cost is charged to you and your bond. The code states the sum and names the instrument completely — a surety bond with good and sufficient surety, by a surety company authorized to transact business in the state, satisfactory to the Town Attorney in form and substance — with no cash deposit or letter of credit offered in its place, which is why the figure is published here. If you work in Jackson’s streets regularly, ask about the annual form: the same section lets you give one bond that covers a year’s worth of encroachment work at a correspondingly larger sum, instead of bonding each permit.
