Five years of verifiable experience in the trade is required; there is no examination. Two people are excused: a general contractor licensed under Denver’s division 2, and a person who owns and occupies residential property abutting the sidewalk or driveway and does the work themselves or under their personal supervision. That owner is excused from the license and the bond but not from the guarantee.

Term: Held with the license and conditioned on compliance with the manager’s requirements and every city ordinance pertaining to sidewalk construction and reconstruction, including the payment of all fees, penalties or cost of repairs.
Renewal: Maintained for as long as you hold the license. The annual license fee for this class is set by the manager of transportation and infrastructure rather than fixed in the fee schedule.
Filing
Filed with the City on Denver’s cement sidewalk bond form, alongside insurance to the City’s right-of-way limits. Read the guarantee provision with the bond: a licensed contractor is deemed to expressly guarantee the sidewalks and driveways it builds for three years after the sidewalk inspector accepts the work, and to maintain and repair them during that period at no cost to the customer or the city. The guarantee covers imperfect or unsuitable material, too much or too little moisture, defective workmanship, settling of fills or excavations, and damage to a curb caused by the work, and it can extend to total reconstruction if the manager decides that is what the repair needs.
