The bond is conditioned on complying with the City’s ordinances and the Director of Public Works’ specifications for that work. The figure is published here on the unnamed-instrument rule: the code states the penal sum but does not name a corporate surety, and a full sweep of the sidewalk and driveway article turns up no cash, certified check, deposit, letter of credit, escrow or in-lieu alternative anywhere — while the enforcement provisions speak of recovering from “the contractor’s surety”, which points toward surety rather than away from it. Miss a repair notice and the exposure is direct: if you fail or refuse to begin repairs within ten days of the Director’s written notice sent to the address on your contractor’s license, and then fail to prosecute them diligently, the Director may have the work done and the City and the property owner may recover the cost from you or from your surety.
