Nevada Contractor License Bond

What it is & who requires it

Every contractor licensed by the Nevada State Contractors Board, in every classification — general building, general engineering and all of the specialty trades (electrical, plumbing and heating, carpentry, roofing, masonry and the rest). The bond is a condition of the state license and protects owners, other licensees, subcontractors, suppliers and the contractor’s own employees against loss caused by the licensee’s unlawful acts or omissions.

Obligee: Nevada State Contractors Board (NSCB). Citation: NRS 624.270 (Bond or deposit: Requirements; amount; conditions); NRS 624.275 (cancellation).

Term & renewal

Term: Continuous — the bond must be continuous in form, with the surety’s total aggregate liability for all claims limited to the face amount of the bond no matter how many years it stays in force.

Renewal: Continuous; at every renewal the licensee files evidence that the bond or cash deposit remains in full force. After 5 consecutive years as a licensed Nevada contractor, the Board may relieve a licensee of the requirement entirely.

Filing

Filed with the Nevada State Contractors Board as a condition of your contractor’s license. Nevada lets you satisfy it with a surety bond or, in lieu of the bond, a cash deposit established with the Board, so the bond is listed. The Board fixes the amount for each licensee individually — from your financial and professional responsibility and the magnitude of your operations — so there is no single published figure, and the exact amount is confirmed when you apply. It is a continuous bond that must stay in force for every renewal, and after five consecutive years of licensure the Board may relieve you of the requirement. Authority: NRS 624.270.
